We knew we needed a different approach, so we looked to provide open, reusable and powerful tools and a platform that would enable anyone to teach intelligence to machines without being an AI expert. Many early efforts to create autonomous systems were developed as siloed, bespoke applications by a team of experts. This malleability enables us to craft abstractions and layers of capability that allow creators to quickly build any type of autonomous systems that can be imagined.
AI PRIME LOCAL CLOUD SOFTWARE
Software is the most malleable medium that there is. The potential to help our customers innovate with this technology and bridge the divide between the physical and digital worlds is limitless. We were surprised to learn how little was currently being executed in the market compared with the vast potential of autonomous systems to change so many industries. We started this journey two and half years ago with the acquisition of a startup called Bonsai and combining the team with our AirSim research effort. Within this, we are focused on bringing human-taught intelligence to machines that operate in the real physical world around us, bridging the world of bits to the world of atoms. It laid the foundation for the fourth industrial revolution, that of artificial intelligence. The third industrial revolution of computing (after steam and electricity) saw the most rapid advancement in the history of mankind. Then as well as now, I had a fundamental belief in software as a means for innovation, with which amazing ideas could be brought to life quickly.

However, losses also mounted to $858 billion with a jump of 45%.When I started at Microsoft in the early ’90s, at the dawn of the PC and Internet era, I couldn’t have imagined all of the waves of innovation that were to come. In its Q2 2022 earnings, Google said its cloud division registered a revenue of $6.3 billion with a year-on-year growth of 35%.

The company also announced new cloud regions in Malaysia, Thailand and New Zealand back in August. The company also said it is building Cloud Interconnect sites in Nairobi (Kenya), Lagos (Nigeria) and South Africa (Capetown and Johannesburg) to connect the on-premise networks to Google’s infrastructure. This announcement comes days after Google announced its first cloud region in Africa based out of South Africa. An Analysis Maison study about the company’s infrastructure investments in the country published last month noted it could lead to an additional $303 billion in GDP between 20. In a blog post, Google CEO Sundar Pichai said that the company will invest $730 million in local infrastructure through 2024. Pichai added that he met Prime Minister Fumio Kishida to share Google’s “Japan Digitization Initiative” plan, which includes infrastructure investments, digital training programs for companies and individuals, and grants for different foundations.Įarlier this year, Google also announced the Topaz subsea cable project that connects Canada and Japan. The company partners with colocation facilities providers like Equinix to power these regions for Google Cloud customers, but now it’s building its own data center to cater to all of its own services - this includes YouTube, Gmail and all the rest. The company said that this new data center will help people with “faster, more reliable access to our tools and services, support economic activity and jobs, and connect Japan to the rest of the global digital economy.” Notably, Google already has cloud regions in Tokyo and Osaka to provide storage and infrastructure services for local businesses. This is the company’s third data center in Asia after Taiwan and Singapore.

The company noted that this data center will be located in Inzai City, Chiba and is a part of its $730 million infrastructure fund that will continue through 2024. Google said today that it will open its first data center in Japan by 2023.
